Atish Paray by Saadat Hasan Manto is a collection of popular Urdu short stories. The author of this book is Saadat Hasan Manto, who is recognized as the greatest short story writer in the Urdu language and literature. This book of Minto was published in 1936. This is his first book of short stories. The fiction written by Manto in this book became very popular. In this collection of short stories, Minto criticizes people from all walks of life.
Manto was a writer as well as an activist of the Indian Nationalist political party. He openly opposed the political policies of the Muslim League. Minto has openly expressed his political thoughts and concerns in the stories written in the book under comment.

About the Author:
Saadat Hasan Manto is a famous short story writer in the Urdu language. He is the author of several books of short stories. Saadat Hasan Manto was born on 11 May 1912 in Ludhiana, India. He is the author of about twenty-two books of short stories. The writer also wrote radio plays. He was associated with All India Radio for a long time. Apart from his novel, three collections of essays have also been published. Critics of Urdu literature consider his collections of short stories to be the best literary works of the Urdu language.
Manto belonged to a family of Kashmiri traders. Most of his family members were involved in trade and advocacy. His father worked as a Sessions Judge in the District Judiciary in Ludhiyana. Manto got his early education from a high school in Amritsar. He even failed the matriculation exam thrice and managed to pass the matriculation exam on the fourth attempt.

After matriculation, he joined Hindu Mahasbha College in the first year, but the college principal expelled him from the college due to poor performance. After failing in the academic field, he started writing short stories. At the beginning of his career, he worked on translating Russian and French literature into Urdu. After that, he started writing regularly for Urdu literature. Mahigeer and Tamasha are his earliest short stories in the Urdu language.
While writing fiction, he moved to Aligarh College for higher education. There he continued his work of writing short stories along with his studies. Several of his writings continued to appear in the college magazine.

Later he moved to Lahore in search of employment where he worked in various newspapers. During this time, his book of Urdu short stories, Atishparay, was published. After that, his second book Manto’s Tales was also published.
These books became quite popular and got popularity in literary circles. When he got fed up with newspaper work, he joined All India Radio. Here he worked as a screenwriter, dramatist, and storyteller.
Saadat Hasan Manto decided to settle permanently in Lahore city at the end of his life, where he passed away on 18 January 1955.
