The writer of this story is the famous short story writer Saadat Hasan Manto. Manto has written this story in the background of the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan.

Toba Take Singh’s critical analysis:

Manto was a supporter of the political ideas of the Indian nationalist political party Congress. He did not want India to be partitioned to create a new country, Pakistan. He was a staunch political opponent of the Muslim League, a Muslim political party, seeking a separate homeland for Muslims. This is the reason why he ridiculed the efforts to achieve a separate homeland and termed this idea as very destructive for the Indian people.

Toba Take Singh summary in urdu:

He calls the politicians in favor of the partition of India, and the politicians in favor of the creation of Pakistan, crazy. Politicians criticized by Minto include Nehru, Master Tara Singh, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The background of this story is that after the partition of India, and the creation of Pakistan, the officials of the two countries decide that the exchange of refugees is complete, so now the lunatics should be exchanged.

He then narrates the incidents of a few lunatics in Lahore’s madhouse. These madmen are namesakes of politicians like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Nehru, Master Tara Singh, etc. He calls the decision to partition India a decision of madmen.
